News and Projects that the Trust Has Funded
Lady Hawkins' Expand Their Sports Offering
Pupils at Lady Hawkins School have being undertaking a rather unusual sport of late, and following funding from the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust they are now able to continue developing their new skills.
The school decided to target a number of pupils that had previously been reluctant to participate in physical activity with Boxercise; a form of physical workout that combines boxing with aerobic exercise.
Allen Brace, head of PE said “The Boxercise sessions proved extremely successful and as such hoped to be able to extend it to other year groups. Obviously there was a cost to this and we decided it would be more financially sound for the school to purchase the equipment and send a member of staff on a training course.”
He added “We submitted an application for funding to the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust as we firmly believe that it will help encourage healthy recreation amongst many more of our children that would not previously have enjoyed participating in a sport.”
As part of the schools application a small amount of funding was also requested to help cater for the growing numbers of pupils attending the after schools gymnastics club which would be used to purchase an extra spring board and crash mat.
John Garbutt chairman of the Trust said “We are always delighted to help projects that encourage healthy recreation amongst children, and the purchase if this new equipment illustrates Lady Hawkins’ ongoing commitment to successfully engage each and every student in an activity that is enjoyable to them.”
