Luctonians Youth Team Look Good On The Touch-Line

Just as the 2007/08 season has drawn to a close it’s time to look back on what has been a very successful season for the Under 16’s Rugby Team at Luctonians RFC after they made it all the way to the semi-finals of the North Midlands Cup.

Having won 17 out of the 20 games played; with their only losses to Worcester in the Cup semi-final and two other top-flight teams in “friendlies”, the Under 16’s really have something to shout about. The icing on the cake was their new strip funded by the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust.

It wasn’t only under 16’s who were lucky enough to get a new strip but the under 13, 14 and 15’s teams received them as well, all thanks to the £3000 grant.

Mike Powell, spokesman for the club said “Not only have the team played like pros this season but they certainly looked the part thanks to their smart new shirts. We have recently had a new clubhouse and smart changing rooms but until now the Youth teams have been left with their old scruffy kits. These new shirts have really helped the players to feel part of the clubs new look and also consolidate them as a team.”

He added “We see sport as essential for the development of young people and with the recent success and this smart new look we hope more youngsters will be attracted to the game so we can continue to encourage healthy recreation and exercise.”

John Garbutt, chairman of the Trust said; “This is the third time the Club has benefited from the Trust and it just goes to show there is no limit to the number of times funding can be given to organisations, groups or individuals as long as at least one of the four objectives set out by the trust are met.
