Shobdon School Take A Swing At Tennis

Wimbledon may have come and gone, but tennis is centre stage at Shobdon Primary School as pupils prepare to take a swing at the game.

The school is proud of its sporting achievements and has been accredited with an ‘Activemark’ (recognising the schools commitment to offering good physical activity provision) for 2 consecutive years. This has contributed to the school receiving a Healthy School Recognition award.

Shobdon School is always looking for ways in which pupils can access additional sports and has turned to the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust for extra help. The trust has provided funding of just over £650 enabling the school to purchase a freestanding tennis net and athletics equipment; allowing them to offer all their pupils the facility and equipment to develop their skills.

Vicky Hancock, headteacher said “It is very important to us to be able to enhance sporting opportunities for our children whilst ensuring that they enjoy taking part in healthy exercise which in turn keeps them fit and healthy.”

“We are aware that there are children who do not always like participating in team activities but like to promote their fitness and agility on a more personal level, so the purchase of the athletics kit is ideal for this. All this equipment is portable, safe and easy to set up, and is adaptable for both the younger and older children to use in a way suitable for their individual needs.”

John Garbutt chairman of the trust said “It is great to see the vision Shobdon School has for encouraging its pupils to participate in sport. We admire the way they have looked for equipment suitable for all their pupils, both individually and as team activities and we are delighted that the trust could help.”
